Ana Cristina Agüero, CMO of brightup and one of her team mates Kiran Joseph pitched at hy!demo Berlin on 19th of January and returned home to Hamburg happily being second placed among 24 other startups. Founded and based in Hamburg, brightup definetly is a startup worth keeping an eye on an we’re happy to report about the team’s achievements. Hy!demo is one event organised by hy! along with international accelerators such as Techstars, Seedcamp, ProSiebenSat1, just to name a few. Europe’s best startup programs presented their classes of 2013 to numerous VC’s, angels, industry experts and of course a range of international media. Brightup took part as class of Berlin Hardware Accelerator. Hy!demo claimed the event of being the first oft that kind in Europe. Ana now tells us about her impressions of being part of that.
‚There where two events planned. The hy! Demo and the hy! 150 for Saturday and Sunday respectively. On Saturday 24 startups pitched in representation of eight different accelerator programs, brightup being one of them as part of the Berlin Hardware Accelerator (BHA). Each startup had three minutes to present the idea and then the public had the change to ask questions. More than 400 people were present which helped us evoking interest and spread the word about brightup.
For us it was a great opportunity to check out what other startups in Europe are doing and what the results of such an accelerator program are. Many startups seemed to be in the same stage like us. The panels gathered very interesting people, especially those representing the Venture Capitalists funds like Index Ventures, Accel Partners and Balderton Capital. They shared their experiences, their biggest mistakes and also their achievements. Being close to VCs allowed us to ask questions, clear misunderstandings and introduce our business ideas. In the end, because we won the second place, we got mentioned in Die Welt and in the Berliner Morgenpost. This is perfect because we are only three weeks away from launching our Indiegogo campaign.
In the hy! 150 there were at least 150 startup founders. After talking with the founders we could challenge our business model and concept. We also shared our thoughts and questions regarding many different topics like the future of hardware, the use of crowd-funding and crowd-investing platforms, techniques to do PR and many more.’
