Destination SXSW 2017 with Hamburg Startups
Over the years Hamburg startups have been a straight A student at the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. Hamburg Startups has been a partner for Hamburg activities related to the topic startup and of course, we are planing this year again an exciting programme.
This is how Tinnitracks claimed its tickets to Austin as the winner of the Startups@Reeperbahn Pitches and ended up begin the chosen one by the coveted SXSW Accelerator. In 2016 Baqend managed a double victory at the Startups@Reeperbahn Pitch and they will be flying straight to Austin this coming March. Along with Baqend, we will send another startup to Austin, with the support of our partners: Deutschen Bank, EY, the Sutor Bank, and XING. Apart from the tickets and the travel costs, they will receive on-site support from Hamburg Startups, with the access to exclusive events with international investors and multiplicators – a thrilling programme! Of course, the selected startups will have full access to the fantastic programme organised by the Sity of Hamburg.
Three startups pitch for a ticket to Austin – apply now
On the Hamburg Startups Mixer – SXSW Edition on 24.01.2017 the three finalists will pitch their ideas to claim their trip to Austin.
Who can take part? We are looking for startups that are already positioned on the market and now looking at the next strategic steps. Are you ready for a challenging and exciting time? Are you ready to jump in the arena and make contacts from 256 countries? Hold on a second, two tickets? Yes! The fintech startup figo has shown an extraordinary growth over the past months, tied numerous partnerships and has recently landed an 6,8 Millionen-Investment. This booming development convinced our partners and ourselves to hand in to figo directly one of the three pitch tickets on 24.01. Kudos!

Hamburger Startups on the SXSW – an overview
- In 2014 three startups went to Austin for the first time to take part in Startups@Reeperbahn – SXSW Edition
- In 2015 startups could join at the German Startup Engine and Tinnitracks won as the first German startup to ever get the SXSW Accelerator
- In 2016 Spherie secured a place in the Accelerator and two other startups made it through the Pre-Pitch as the perfect startup representatives and secured their tickets to Austin
About the SXSW
The South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) takes place each year in Austin, Texas since 1987. Born a music festival, it gradually became the most important event of the digital economy worldwide. Find out more about its historical background here. Hamburg has answered the call for many years and represents one of the biggest delegations. Hamburg companies will be given support in various forms on site. Startups can also apply funding for their travel expenses. More detailed information about it here. Apart from the Hamburg events, there are of course many other German activities organised, such as German Haus, among other ones.

Hamburg Startups is the leading start-up platform in the media-city of Hamburg and is committed to effective networking and representation in the start-up scene. The port city of Hamburg has become a benchmark for many European locations with an ecosystem that Hamburg Startups has significantly helped to build up over the last four years.
